About the PTA

WHY is there a  Parent-Teacher Association at ISGR?

All parents and school staff are automatically members of the ISGR’s Parent Teacher Association and this for both sections, National and International.
We encourage each one of you to become a part of our active members team. We offer all kind of positions and all profiles are welcome to share their talents and ideas.

The number one reason to join the PTA is to benefit the children. But there are many more advantages:
- By becoming a PTA active member, you'll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on school and education.
- By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences and personal confidence. It's an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use, for a good cause.
- By getting involved, you'll be part of the solution, helping to make positive change.
- PTA functions provide opportunities to be part of a team, develop new skills and keep your career on track.
- The PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas: we support parents attending the PTA meetings throughout the year to make suggestions, provide input and build new projects for school.

SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAMS

The goal of the PTA is to support school in developing programs and improve equipment/facilities. As parents and teachers, together, we are working in helping to enhance the children well being at school.

So what are we offering exactly and what is the role of parents to make things happen?

PTA Class Representatives: in PYP, each class has a point person for assisting with communication between parents and teachers of a particular classroom or grade. The Class Representatives also help to get parents involved in school activities and outings.

Volunteers to assist Staff and Event: Librarians and teachers always welcome any assistance. This year, ISGR was hosting the Nordic Network Tournament.

Teachers and Staff Appreciation Day: Our special annual celebration day to say thanks to our teachers and staff with our international homemade food.

PTA Country Representatives are "The Welcome Committee": they are parents from all countries who got engaged for assisting newcomers with easy settling in Gothenburg. The Country Representatives coordinate organization of Café and Stalls for the Winter Bazaar. They organize also Meet up's for the people in their own community group.

Funding projects for School.  The Winter Bazaar event is the main Fundraiser project of the year financing school projects for students. In 2019, 2 main projects were funded: the upgrade of the Library at Guldheden and Student Center at Molinsgatan. Our funding fundamentals explain rules and procedures to follow. Parents, teachers, Staff and Students can all introduce a funding request.

BOARD MEMBERS, ACTIVE MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS
As every organization, we need people to coordinate our actions among us parents, but also with school. We work together to promote the international spirit of our community: the PTA cannot be efficient without school... and school would not have such an international feel without the PTA members, the parents of their students.

What we do:
Board meetings about once a month:
President, Treasurer, Secretary + Actions coordinators + Active members +School representatives meet to discuss PTA missions and prepare actions and events
Developing communication tools: Newsletter and weekly update, Facebook Pages: ISGR PTA, ISGR Tripadvisor and ISGR Buy&Sell, this Blog
Preparing and Coordinating school events and all kind of fun activities for parents, teachers and children

2019-2020 PROJECTS AND ORGANISATION

Each year, PTA needs to renew its Board and Active members and adapt its program.
PTA wants volunteers to be able to act freely while doing what they like because people make what the PTA is, and not the opposite.
Here are some actions we are now working on:
- Rewrite and communicate on our charter of principles (new statutes) to keep us all on track with our governance
- Develop our communication tools: this blog is an example
- Collaborate in a more efficient way in school's actions
- Associate teachers, students and staff to all our projects and fundraising programs
- Enhance School-Parents links through new projects (After school Activities for kids, Makers room)
- Support parents organizing and coordinating social activities
- Collaborating and communicating more about school issues

Do you have more ideas? Come to our meetings and share it with us!

ISGR PTA is supporting new after school activities program for students

It's often a challenge to register our children in activities after school, no? For years, the PTA has always tried to support parents and students by answering their questions about this, as there is no specific program offered by ISGR. Hopefully, the Sports Club was created by Peter a few years ago and is now running well. Still there was room for other type of activities. ISGR had already allowed private teachers to use school premises for music lessons for example but this would not fulfil all the needs of our community. Some parents have as well developed their own clubs but it was not always easy to find information about those. Now it's a new era that begins with a dedicated process for "Activity Leaders" to offer activities at school as well as there is a more transparent routine to register the children to those activities:  a special thank you to Iris who did an amazing job on this! From there, we hope the offer will grow and that ISGR will be able to

Welcome to the ISGR PTA Blog!

With this new initiative, we now offer our members a more knowledgeable and accessible information about our missions and goals. It is also the place where you can find what the PTA has to offer during the school year and how you can contribute by being an active member and joining the PTA Team. Go through all the pages: maybe you did not know how fun  it is  to belong to our groups or how rewarding it is to  contribute to the well being of the ISGR community. You are part of the action: the PTA  provides a  forum  for people interested in school and local life, and it supports  parents, teachers and staff who want to be actors of the progress for our children by exchanging new ideas and funding new projects. And of course, you can  always  count on PTA other members to facilitate your integration at ISGR and in Gothenburg, Sweden. Whether you are from Sweden or abroad, if you are a parent/guardian of a child at ISGR or working at ISGR, you are automatically a membe

Welcome to a new school year at ISGR!

We are ready! Yes 2020 is not like any other year but the PTA looks forward to continuing some of its missions this new school year. So what did we learn so far about the situation with Covid-19 and what to expect this year - unless it changes for better - regarding PTA activities? The rule is no gatherings of more than 50 people and school will continue to do as much online meetings as possible to reduce contact. It means that sadly we cannot hold any event like the Welcoming Breakfast, the Family Day or even the Winter  Bazaar.   We still want to do as much as we can to welcome new parents. There are 143 new students, meaning a lot of new families joined ISGR. There will be an orientation tour on August 21st and if more people are interested on Tuesday 25 August. Information will be advertised during the online welcoming session held by school no Monday 20 and also on Managebac. During this tour, PTA active members will share a lot of useful information with newcomers about living in
